After pregnancy, infertility is the most common reason women aged between 20-45 visit their GP
1 in 6 couples in the UK experience difficulties conceiving - that's about 3.5 million people.
Over 60,000 cycles of IVF are performed in the UK each year yet fewer than 25% of these are successful.
The majority of fertility treatment in the UK is paid for privately as NHS provision can vary depending on postcode.
In over 40% of cases, infertility is unexplained.
Fertility declines with age in men and women
Following a healthy diet and lifestyle can help improve the chances of conceiving, whether naturally or with fertility treatment.
In my clinic I use Acupuncture and Moxa to assist with the baby making process. I have assisted many patients now at different stages, those going through IVF or IUI and those who just want to try acupuncture first. Which ever process a patient is going through I believe Acupuncture will help at all levels, mentally, emotionally and physically.
How Acupuncture can assist in Baby Making.
Acupuncture can help to regulate the menstrual cycle and balances the hormones which can reduce PMT and stress levels.
It promotes ovulation and improves the quality of the eggs released.
Using needles and moxa can increase the blood flow to the reproductive organs and thickens the lining of the uterus for successful implantation.
Stress and lack of sleep can be a major factor to infertility Acupuncture will help reduce stress, balance out the emotions and help with a good nights sleep.
And... for the male partners Acupuncture will enhance the quality of the sperm.
How Moxa can assist in the baby making process.
Moxa will bring heat to the acupuncture point and area. It is known for its ability to soothe mentrual cramps and regulate a womens monthly cycle. It does this by stimulating blood flow to the reproductive organs due to the heat.
Women suffering infertility problems usually suffer with a cold low jioa (below the belly button). This is due to insufficient blood flow and lifestyle. Moxa is a great way to bring warmth to the area used directly or indirectly.
Moxa will also reduce stress levels creating deep relaxation and will also help with a good nights sleep.
Keep the pelivic area and lower back as warm as possible, Get RID of the low cut jeans and keep the kidneys covered.
Eat warming foods especially when the weather is cold, plenty of seasonal vegetables and good quality proteins and eat regularly.
I also use the Chicken and egg as an example, the chicken sits of the egg to keep it warm until it hatches this is now the job of any women wanting to conceive, keep your eggs warm.
Rest as much as possible so energy is used to create a baby. If you are exercise mad then you will need to reduce this. If you do no exercise you will need to do some, a walk every couple of days or a bike ride. This is also a great way of getting fresh air and sunlight.
Reduce stress levels in any way you can, at work or at home. Stress is a major factor so take time to unwind and relax.
Reduce alcohol or stop all together and STOP smoking!
This is only my opinion, but never tell your partner when you are ovulating. This can cause tension and stress and make sex more a chore than something to be enjoyed. Now for the Sex talk! Enjoy sex, start the evening with romance put everything else to one side and enjoy each other. Have plenty of foreplay, this will create more natural lubrication and make it easier for the sperm to travel, stimulate for a long as possible you want a strong and intense ejaculation from your man. And after... legs up maybe leaning against the wall hips tilted towards you just to give the sperm an extra helping hand!
I am delighted with the success my Acupuncture and I
have had so far and can't wait to meet the new bundles of joy.
Please call Sian to discuss Acupuncture treatments in more details or to book an appointment. I will advise patients to have one treatment per week for the first 4-6 weeks.
